YOU SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!

Okay, so today's blog strays a bit from the "Road to Chatt Hills" path at hand because it's my Birthday. Truth be told, I'm not much of a Birthday kind of gal, and not for the reason you'd probably suspect. It's not about age at all. I firmly believe you are only as old as you feel. I feel about 27, and since I'm blessed with very good genes (Thanks Mom and Dad!) and hang out with a lot of young folks, most people don't come anywhere near to guessing my real age. No it's not about that... It's about, I'm sorry to say, romanticism. It seems that in spite of my very linear, logical, left-brained self, I am a HOPELESS romantic. There! I said it!

From a very young age I always built Birthdays up so much in my mind that there was no WAY reality could compete, so I was usually disappointed. As an adult some sort of craziness like pipes bursting or a breakup usually ensued. Eventually to avoid any sort of heart ache, real or romaticized, I just sort of decided a Birthday was just a day to reflect upon the past year and make goals for the next, kind of like a recap of New Year's. This particular Birthday has been a really good one for that since I have a lot of exciting opportunities happening with my tack store, and I'm trying to get ready for the AEC's. (On a side note, did I mention the font I'm using is called "Georgia?")

There is one thing, however, that has changed the way I look at Birthdays just a bit, and that is facebook. I never would have thunk it, but facebook has actually made me look forward to today. Why? It is such a neat, neat, fantabulous feeling to sit and read little Birthday wishes from friends old, new, near and far. In short, it's AWESOME!!! And it makes me feel so loved! I couldn't wait to get on the computer to see who I'd hear from! And it made me make a little promise to myself to check and see who's Birthday it is each day, so I can make them feel loved too. Maybe unwittingly I'm even wishing "Happy Birthday!" to someone like me and possible changing their point of view too! Heck! I'll even just settle for having made them smile!

Just so you don't think all my Birthdays were horrible and bad (which really and truly not many of them were), I'll share one of my favorite Birthday memories which probably gave my mom a heart attack. We were living in Dallas when I turned 13, and I was "living" at a riding stable called White Rock Stables. School was miserable for me there because I never felt like I fit in, but the stables and the horses and my friends there were my life. It made perfect sense that I had my Birthday party there. Cake, presents, decorations, the works! When all my little horsey friends and I got done eating and opening gifts, we all hopped on our ponies bareback and went running around through White Rock park jumping logs bareback and just being silly, horsey girls. It was wonderful! And it was one of the best Birthdays ever!

Enough about a subject I hardly mention...So what did Syd and I do today? Well, he needed new shoes desperately so I didn't want to do anything that might make him throw a shoe. He did eventually get new shoes today, but not until it was already hotter than blue blazes, so we worked on trot poles, the pimple, and little 18" jump courses out in the field for about 30 minutes. It was fun and productive, and it was HOT! Syd's a rock star, and Boy! does he know it! Big ole spoiled rotten beast!

And what did I do? Well, I held horses in the heat for 3 hours for the farrier after that, started checking in an order from UPS, wrote this blog, and I'm about to head home. Oh! You mean "exercise!" Right! Are you crazy? It's my Birthday! And I'm absolutely, positively, totally sure there's something fattening and chocolate in my future. How romantic is that?
